You can find a lot of artistic and historical curiosities in Bayeux and its surroundings.
The town in itself, miraculously saved from the Second World War bombings, managed to preserve its cathedral (XIIIth and XVth centuries) and its old town. Bayeux is also the keeper of the famous Tapisserie de Bayeux, 70 meters long masterpiece representing the conquest of England by William the Conqueror.
A lot of D-Day testimonies can also be found in Bayeux and its region, such as the "Musée Mémorial de la Bataille de Normandie", the "Mémorial du Général de Gaulle" (located in the "Logis du Gouverneur", a XVth century building), or the "Musée du Débarquement" in Arromanches.
Finally, Bayeux is also famous for the art of lacing, inherited from the XVIIth century lacemakers, that you can admire in several exhibitions.
